October - Breast Cancer Awareness - The New Version Of Me
We often get asked if our products are safe and effective during cancer treatments. Our friend and colleague Nicki shares her own personal experience of her treatment journey and the products which helped her the most:
'Three years ago, I was still wearing the ‘highly fashionable’ support stockings after Breast Cancer surgery and wondering if I would ever look or feel like a ‘Real Woman’ again. Having experienced Breast Cancer, I think I will always be ‘Aware’ but oddly it has also been an enlightening time, not one I would recommend of course, but still a time to consider what I may have done differently and what choices I make in the future as I get/continue getting used to the new version of me.
One of the most valuable things I was told in the early days of Chemo was to use oils on my skin as chemo is tough on it and most moisturisers, although they claim to be for dry skin, actually contain mostly water which just evaporates. I didn’t realise that not all patients are advised to use oil and I have seen those effects during my various hospital visits, and on skin much younger than mine.
I was lucky that I already worked with Inlight, who make the highest quality 100% organic oil based skin care products, so I didn’t need to spend hours searching the internet, as I did with many things at that time – from diet, how to combat Chemo sickness and Radiotherapy burning, and for a new wonder cure. The only time that I had to compromise was during the three weeks of Radiotherapy, when oils should be avoided in that area, but soon afterwards our soothing Calendula & Damask Rose ointment was a Godsend to start the repair process.
It goes against all your instincts not to try and protect yourself with vitamins and supplements when your body is at its most vulnerable – with angry scars to heal, poisoned veins, and unable to recognise the hairless person looking back from the mirror, but these have to be avoided due to the interaction with Chemo. However, with confident skincare choices you can still give your body a boost through our biggest organ, the skin, with pure organic revitalising and regenerating Herbal Oil products.
Products I recommend
Of course, starting with a Face Cleanser that leaves my skin nourished as well as clean, goes without saying. Line Softener Intensive to help fade away the scars, Hair Elixir massaged into the scalp to urge on healthy new hair growth (and nails too, it seems, while applying it), Firm and Tone oil to help skin elasticity and glowing vitality again, and my other daily essential the silky protective veil of vanilla and rose infused Face Oil. With the peace of mind that 100% organic means you can trust ALL of its contents to be kind to your skin while treading lightly on our precious planet too. When we know all this why wouldn’t we choose 100% organic?
