Choosing Organic
It’s Soil Association’s Organic Beauty and Wellbeing week! We love this yearly event which highlights the importance of something very close to our hearts here a Inlight- organic beauty & sustainable living for a healthier future for our planet and all species who reside on it.
There is a growing hunger among consumers for brand transparency – the pandemic saw a shift in consumer behavior, we all seem to want to know more about ingredients and how a product is sourced and made which is fantastic step forward.
Just over 2 in 5 shoppers now say that looking for certification logos help them to choose the most sustainable. According to the Soil Association market report, 47% of consumers now check how ethical a brand is before purchasing – we find this a great success!
So what to look for
Unfortunately, there is still a lot of ‘Greenwashing’ out there – marketing strategies which confuse the consumer rather than truly inform. If unsure...Look for the logo.
Natural & Organic although sound similar, have different meanings.
Natural – refers to what ingredients a product is made up from. They come from natural origins such as plants, flowers, and minerals, they include no harmful substances and are never tested on animals. Due to a lack of regulations however, it can be hard to tell just how ‘natural’ a product really is.
Organic- this term refers to the way in which a product or ingredient is grown and processed. Not only do the ingredients have to come from natural origins and include no harmful substances, the way of farming or producing the ingredient or product needs to ensure sustainability of the soil, ecosystems, animals and people involved in the making.
So, why organic?
ETHICAL, MINDFUL BEAUTY:
Inlight does not compromise on quality or sustainability - We are proud to have been the first UK skincare company to receive 100% organic Cosmos certification throughout our ranges. Not only is each ingredient rigorously checked, but every part of our business is as mindful as possible - from the production method, soaps used, materials purchased...even our organic bio waste is recycled in compost form!
We support our local wildlife by being in partnership with Cornwall Wildlife Trust and investing in local beehives.
Dr Spiezia maintains that if an ingredient is not 100% organic, we cannot experience and benefit fully from its natural properties.
When you buy a certified organic beauty product, you can be sure it contains:
- No GM (genetically modified) ingredients
- No controversial chemicals
- No parabens or phthalates
- No synthetic colours, dyes or fragrances
- No nanoparticles
- Certified sustainable palm oil ingredients
- Recycled and recyclable packaging where possible
- ...And that no animal testing has been done in the making of the product [Soil Association, What Is Organic Beauty]
Look out for these logos for reassurance that the product you are purchasing is certified as organic or natural because it meets the standards provided by Soil Association.
“Organic certification gives the customer a guarantee of authenticity and for us it is synonymous with the unadulterated goodness of Nature that we can pass on to the world through the products we make” says Dr Mariano Spiezia.
